Inshore Pulse
Privacy Policy
Inshore Pulse is a fishing map and private catch log. This policy describes exactly what the app and website collect, why, where it is kept, and how to remove it. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and there is no analytics or advertising SDK in the app or on the website.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work:
-
Account identity. When you sign in with Apple we store an Apple-provided
identifier for your account, and your email address and name if Apple provides them. Apple
lets you hide your email, in which case we receive a private relay address instead; either
way it is stored. If Apple does not provide a name or email, we store none.
An account is required to subscribe, and this is why: your subscription and your catches are held against that identifier rather than against a device or a browser, so they survive a reinstall and follow you between the app and the website without you having to prove you already paid. Sign in with Apple is the only sign-in we offer, and hiding your email does not limit anything.
- Catches you log. The precise location, date and time of the catch, and anything you choose to enter about it — species, length, weight and notes — plus a photo if you attach one. Each catch also stores a snapshot of the weather, tide and water conditions at the time it was recorded.
- Water temperature readings you contribute. If you submit a water temperature, we store the reading, the location and time it applies to, and the surrounding area it falls in.
- Your subscription, if you have one. We store the store’s identifier for the subscription, which product it is, whether it is active, when it expires, whether it is set to renew, whether it is on the introductory free month, and whether it came from a test or a live store. See “Subscriptions and payment” below.
- Your device location, while you are using the app. Used to show your position on the map and to calculate bearing and distance to a selected spot. This is requested as “while using the app” only — there is no background location tracking. Your live position is used on your device and is not stored on our servers unless you log a catch at it.
Everything above is linked to your account. Catches and photos are private to you; there is no sharing or public feed.
What we do not collect
- No tracking, and no data is used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- No advertising identifiers, and no advertising networks.
- No third-party analytics, crash-reporting or attribution SDKs.
- Map telemetry is switched off. Our maps use the Mapbox SDK, which collects usage and diagnostic data by default; we disable that collection in the app.
- No card numbers, and no payment details of any kind. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or by Stripe, and neither passes us a card number, a CVC, or a billing address. See “Subscriptions and payment” below for what we do receive.
Why we collect it
Account identity exists so your catch log is yours and reachable from any device you sign in on. Catch and location data is the product — it is the log itself and what draws your history on the map. Contributed water temperatures are used in aggregate to improve the water temperature shown to everyone.
We do not use your data for any purpose beyond operating the app.
Where it is stored
Data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure in the United States — account, catch and water temperature records in a Cloudflare D1 database, and catch photos in Cloudflare R2 storage.
To show conditions we request weather, tide and related forecast data from third-party services including NOAA and Open-Meteo. Those requests carry the coordinates being looked at so the service can answer; they do not carry your identity, your account or your catch history.
Subscriptions and payment
Subscriptions are sold through two processors: Apple, for purchases made in the iOS app, and Stripe, for purchases made on the website. Payment is taken by whichever one you bought through. We never see, receive or store a card number, a security code, or a billing address, and we cannot charge your card ourselves.
What we store is the record that says you are entitled to use the app: the store’s own identifier for your subscription, the product you bought, its status, when it expires, whether it is set to auto-renew, whether it is on the introductory free month, and whether it came from a test or a live store. We also keep the identifier of the last notification the store sent us about it, so a message delivered twice or out of order cannot corrupt the record. That record is linked to your account.
When you buy on the website, we send Stripe your account identifier so that the subscription it creates comes back attached to the right account. We do not send Stripe your catch log or your locations. Stripe keeps its own customer record for you, including the payment method you entered; that record is held by Stripe under Stripe’s privacy policy, not by us. Purchases made in the app are handled entirely by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy, and Apple tells us only that a subscription exists and what state it is in.
Deleting your account cancels a website subscription for you, immediately, before anything is erased. An App Store subscription is different: we cannot cancel it. Apple gives no one but you the ability to do that, so if you have subscribed through the app, cancel it yourself in the Settings app — tap your name, then Subscriptions — or it will keep billing after the account is gone. The app tells you this at the moment you delete.
How long we keep it
Your account and catch log are kept until you delete them. There is no automatic expiry — a catch log is only useful as a long record. Contributed water temperature readings are kept while your account exists and are deleted with it.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account from inside the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent — there is no soft delete, no hidden retained copy, and no recovery. It removes:
- your account record, including the Apple identifier, email and name;
- every catch you have logged, including locations, notes and condition snapshots;
- every catch photo;
- every water temperature reading you contributed;
- your subscription records, if any exist — see above for what happens to the billing itself.
We also tell Apple to revoke the Sign in with Apple connection, so the link between your Apple ID and Inshore Pulse is severed rather than left in place. If that step cannot be completed, deletion is stopped and reported to you rather than partly done.
If you would rather not use the in-app control, email privacy@huckleberrylanelabs.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.
Children
Inshore Pulse is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we use it changes, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.
